The building which was to house our café was constructed over a two-year period from 1880 by Hellmer & Fellner, the most renowned building firm of the Imperial period. Early in 1900, a coffee house was opened in it. Originally named the "Café Orleans", it was given the name "Café Weimar" at the end of the First World War, marking the foundation of Germany's Weimar Republic. To this day, it remains the favourite meeting-place for the artists and guests of the nearby Volksoper, the former Kaiserjubiläums-Stadttheater (Imperial Jubilee Theatre). Continuous conservation work has succeeded in preserving the historical quality of the interior, with its crystal chandeliers, comfortable booths, large mirrors, fine textiles and dark wood, all for the pleasure and comfort of our guests.
